Social Activities
As a group, we value engagement both outside and inside the lab! Throughout the year, we host a mix of social activities that range from casual get togethers to more structured gatherings. We're big on encouraging everyone to come out and mingle beyond the lab. We aim to include a diverse range of activities, so you'll always find something that suits your taste. From laid-back pizza gathering to pub nights and impromptu coffee meetups, we're all about making sure there's something for everyone. These events aren't just about having fun; they're about building connections and making the most of your time in the group.
Scherman Group Winter Schools
In past years we went on an annual Winter School which included an intense week of scientific enrichment activities with some afternoons on the slopes, sipping hot chocolate piste side or relaxing in the spa - depending on your preference!
Summer Activites
Typical summer activities include punting and/or barbeques. In Cambridge punting is not just a serene and picturesque way to experience the colleges; it's a great social activity where you can spend an afternoon making your way along the river cam for a barbeque in Granchester medows or just floating past all the colleges and listening to the tour guides tell ludicrious stories to the tourists!
Nights out
We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by some traditional English pubs that serve great foods and a wide selection of drinks. Nights at the pub can range from some competitive board gaming to delicious food by an open fire.
Group Meals
Group potluck acitivites have become a tradition where each group member brings a dish and we all enjoy a wild medley of food! If you don't cook it isnt a problem, take away pizza or noodles always go down a treat!
