Join us as a visitor
We welcome visting students to join us for short and medium term stays. Typically visitors will come for a minimum period of 6 months up to 1 year but we are flexible, please get in touch if you are interested!

General information

Visiting students or researchers can start any time, it does not have to be the start of a term.

There is a mandatory langauge requirement which is set as a score of 7.0 in IELTS or TOEFL iBT score of 100.

We encourage applicants to contact us in advance (ideally 6 months) so that paperwork and visas (if needed) can be organised with sufficient time.

If you are coming as a coming here to carry out research which is to be assessed as part of your degree course (Masters or PhD), you are classified as a student visitor and require a student visa.

If you are coming under a training or work experience agreement (such as Erasmus), or if the project has nothing to do with your degree course, you will be classed as a visiting researcher on a work visa.

If your home insitution will require an agreement to be in place as part of your visit, this typically means you are classified as a visiting researcher.
International students requiring a VISA

Visitor Visa | You can apply for a visitor visa if your visit will last 6 months or less.

Student Visa | You must apply for a student visa if your visit will last between 6 - 12 months and your research will be assessed as part of your degree course.

Work Visa | You must apply for a work visa if your visit will last between 6 - 12 months and are coming under a training or work experience agreement.

3. Do you have any visa requirements? If so, what type do you need (student or work)?
4. Will the visit form part of your degree course? Will it be assessed, if so, how?
5. Will there be an agreement required between your home insitution and Cambridge?
6. Do you have funding to support your visit?
